Evenin' all.
So I read (or think I did) something recently that seemed to say that for certain years both the heavyweight singles (350/500) shared the same flywheels? Can anyone confirm this? I know when I was looking for a G80 bottom end a few years back I was looking for some stamped 'G9'.
Help o'wise ones ........
Thanks
Tom

500cc is stamped G9, 350cc is stamped G3.

Thanks Dave, I need to dig out whatever I was reading (unless it was an odd dream). Shame, I was hoping I could build up a 500 with 350 flywheels

Re: Flywheel types (Singles)
Tom, there are bikes out there with a 500 top end on a 350 bottom end, unfortunately I have no experience of them but in theory they should rev more freely but not have the same torque from the (heavier) flywheel effect, would be interested to hear any real world experiences from past or present owners.
I can vaguely remember reading about a conversion once, it may have been in an old Jampot.

Re: Flywheel types (Singles)
From literature in 'Tech. articles' (top right of this page) it appears that from '48 the 350 used the 500 c/case and flywheels (plus other changes). The flywheels were balanced differently on account of the different weight pistons and this may be why 'identical' flywheels have been marked G3 and G9.
Here are three articles for example...

There are more and also in Christians Archive. Here's one referring to f/wheel balance factor and other changes:
