my 'lil chum has acquired a rather nice '53 G80, the engine does not have the 's' for springer but it is in an early 'jampot' frame the carb fitted is a concentric which he does not like, I'm sure the original would have been a pre monobloc type but as we have between us quite a few of these I think such will probably be fitted, what I would like to know is what model number and diameter mono would be suitable for his bike?
he will as a matter of course be coersed into joining the club asap!

I made files for AJS & Matchless carbs, you will find Matchless here in tech tips.Mick D wrote:Hi

I have not listed full carb specifications. You can however use this file to discover the correct carb for a year/model. It will be pre mono. Then move on to see which mono carb was first on the same model. Bore size and head ( cast or alloy ) may differ. You will need the correct bore size for sure. Before you start adapting the carb jets etc. Do not forget the correct slide. To find all the info for pre mono and mono for the bike model go to http://archives.jampot.dk/technical/Car ... _Settings/
You need to look in "settings " books of the year / years in question. If you have a carb body with the wrong model number for a Matchless. You could also check which make year and model the carb was intended for. If you follow this route, you should discover all the info you seek. You may still have to fiddle a bit with jets etc for best results using todays fuels.
