I had a Model 18 with an AMC box back in the 70s - the clutch plates used to stick on that, as they did on the Tiger Cub I had before that. I seem to recall that they did on my Commando as well. On my current Model 31 they do the same, and that's with the chaincase oil just touching the chain, as recommended.
I suppose it might be different using auto transmission fluid, but I've never tried. To be honest I always pull in the clutch and kick it over to free it as a matter of course. To me it's just 'normal' behaviour.

Re: Clutch Sticks When Left Overnight
There was a supply of clutch friction plates on the market about 10 years ago that always stick , no matter what you do
I guess a modern friction material for dry clutches that the oil in the primary case effects
In the end I changed them for Surflex type and problem solved
The latest ones on the market are fine
Norton,AMC Friction Clutch Plate with internal tabs - •Made in Italy by Surflex- •OEM: 04-3193
Single sided friction plate with internal tabs.
Fits AJS/Matchless singles and twins (1959-) with AMC gearbox, and Norton singles and twins (1959-).
Internal spline.
