This can happen especially on the L/W's as the splined centre is very small compared to the H/w's. Usually it's due to the centre nut working loose and the centre fretting under load and this wears away the small end stop tabs. The club have had new centres for the lightweights made but the fun begins when you try to establish which one of the 2 types of centre you have. Pictures will make this diagnosis much easier. Not sure if guests can post pictures but I would suggest that you join the club to gain full unlimited access and unlimited time to sort out you issues. A guest only has 90 days limited access.

Terence is already a full member but needs his details on the main website server and the forum server to coincide. He needs to send an email to Eamonn at webmaster@jampot.com to have this sorted out.

My apologies Janet, he is indeed a West Midlander. Well, there'll be no problems with loading the photos then to see exactly what we're dealing with.

The other thing I would query that is the mainshaft correct. The G2 has not got the duplex chain and therefore the hub is closer to the inner case.

Not sure if that really matters as both the centres are suitable for duplex and simplex. The only question being is the correct centre on the correct mainshaft? With 2 types of centre and 4 mainshafts there's plenty of opportunity for the fun to begin! :headbang:

Hi Terence,

Definitely no spacer. It can jam for a number of reasons, including mismatched mainshaft/clutch centre (as described above).

First thing you need to do is work out which mainshaft you have:

IMG_1559.jpg
Mainshaft 041701 was fitted to 350cc boxes number from 0 to 3757. 041703 was an improved main shaft fitted from box number 3758 onwards. The parts list shows this shaft was also fitted to the 250cc CSR. You need this shaft if your bike has a duplex primary chain.

Mainshaft 041263 was fitted to 250cc boxes number 0 to 9974 and 10064 to 10128 as a temporary measure. 043058 was fitted to box numbers 9975 to 10063 inclusive and all boxes after 10128 according to the manual (but there is no mention of this part in the spares list). You need this shaft if your bike has a simplex primary chain.

Early mainshafts 041701 and 041263 need clutch centre 043186. Later mainshafts 043058 and 041703 need clutch centre 043509.

Clanger

That's a great piece of exposition for those that need it.

Not me, but it's nice to see on the forum so someone can find it with a Search.
