Help with G3 service

Post by Roey »

Hi, I have recently bought a 1961 G3 ex Dutch Army bike. I could really do with some servicing info ie oil types for engine, gearbox and primary drives. I have an idea but would just like confirmation please. Is there a manual available anywhere?

I have several oil leaks, not that I expect it to be totally oil tight, but would like to try and stem them somewhat.
I have a small metal tube underneath the engine that seems to vent oil, is this a crank case vent?

There are several top end oil leaks which I'm sure I can sort but would like a manual of some kind before I strip anything down.
Hope someone can help

Thanks

Mick

Look here for a manual for your bike:

http://archives.jampot.dk/search this site and you should find everything you are asking for. There should be a copy of the Owners manual, and a spares list although it might not have all the exact parts of a Dutch Army bike. Yes the vent tube underneath is a crankcase vent. They usually drip a bit of oil after a decent run. If it is excessive, assuming the oil return to the oil tank is ok (it will bubble and spurt at tickover), then the problem may be blow by over pressurising the crankcase. This is usually caused by a worn out barrel/piston or it can be the result of an overheating seizure slightly seizing the rings in their grooves.
