As suggested I popped the rings on by hand.
Packed up after putting the piston back on the con rod. Realised it had been too long a day when I made a simple schoolboy error. Firtunately just inconvenient in my lock up with limited sideways space.
Have to say, I prefer "proper" flat one side circlips with the little ears with holes in.
All good.
Barrel may go on tomorrow. There's another thread about that!
