Re: 7" brakes
As far as I know the prewar G3 had 7" front brake . It changed to the smaller 250 brake, drum pt. no. 40-G2M-B115, 1940. Perhaps when the WO wanted a lighter machine. You may notice front drum 40-G2M-B115 was used up until 1947. In 1948 the drum Pt. no. changed. I read a comment referring to " 1948 the G3L saw a welcome back to the 7" brake. There was also changes made to the fork slider with two bosses to take the brake plate locating bolts..... " So 48 front brake must match 48 slider.

Re: 7" brakes
Info from parts lists and book, profile of the G3L. You can check the rear brake using the same method. But perhaps narrowed down to 47 and 48 parts list, to see if the change also took place in 1948 for the rear brake. Any part numbers seen, can be checked in the 1954 old /new parts list conversion book. If a part is listed showing a new part number. This will confirm parts were used post 1951 onwards. You can then check if club spares have parts by searching the new part number.
