Thanks; till tricky to be sure isn't it? The bits fell out before I spotted the issue when I took the cover off, hence my uncertainty. I will try it with the bigger cutout facing the internals - I think the cutout is to clear the selector drum. I will let you all know...

just had a look in my junk and the only spare burman spring I've got is exactly the same on both sides.

Thanks guys. I have assembled it with the larger cutout side facing the inside of the 'box. It is all back in and works statically ie move the back wheel and clunk through the gears - never that slick but works.

So, bits back on including pipe and silencer but no road test today as it is pissing down. The suspense is doing me no good, so may have to have a beer...

Stretching my memory because it is a couple of years or more agao but I also think that spring was symmetrical on my B52 box.

But can't be sure.

When I get the Matchless fixed I'll have to let you know when I'm going on it to work at Bishop and we could meet up.

It would be good to have a NE section. I went to the Beverley meet once and the Otley one twice (I think) but I found them long round trips but I know my way round County Durham. Even did the Beamish Reliability a couple of times.
