Hello gentlemen.
I have a question about advance/retard settings on the magneto.
With the contact cover removed, looking from the contact side of the unit, the cable goes in on the right side.(to the rear of the machine). This is asked to eliminate any doubt about whether I'm retarding or advancing . When I pull the cable, the disk turns counter clockwise, and clockwise when it is slacked. I understand that the ignitiontiming should be set with full advance. Is it correcly understod, that fully advanced is when the cable is slack, and the disk is in it rightmost position, and when I tighten the cable it will retard the ignition.
Is advance an earlyer spark, and retard an later spark, or have I got all this wrong?
Cheers

Some are slack some are tight when advanced. Not sure which mags. differ. It is easy to tell which way, as the engine will run faster fully advanced.

When viewing the mag from the points side, if the a/r cable is on the right (nearest cylinder) the this is a "tight wire advance" i.e. lever pulled back.
With the a/r to the left, then this is a "slack wire advance".
