tight nuts
Hi all.
I have a problem with some unmovable nuts where i can only get open ended spanners on
in awkward places ,i have heard about a tool that uses electric from a battery to heat the nut only
to cherry red ,much safer where fire is a big risk .
Has anyone heard of this tool and what it is called, also where i might find one
thanking you hopefully.
cheers Martyn

Found this with a search for £395 http://www.bolt-buster.co.uk/#1 or this one http://www.theinductor.com/ there are probably others available.

Re: tight nuts
Have not heard of a battery powered stud heater, but you can get a mains powered induction heater that will do the job.
Probably cost too much for one small job

Re: tight nuts
A cheaper method is to chain drill a row of small holes in the flat of the nut and then use a chisel in the slot created to drive the nut round.

Re: tight nuts
I'd be interested to know the precise problem, engine/model etc.

Re: tight nuts
looking at the tools t'would seem if you can get the heating element on then you could get a ring spanner on also, however along the lines of heat application and getting it precise what about a high power 'lectric soldering iron to get the nut hot? worth a try perhaps, kind regards

Hi
I'd get a decent gas torch system, (for about the same price), and use it for lots more applications than this rather specialised product.

Re: tight nuts
Hi all.
Thanks to all who replied to my plea, the bolt buster would almost do the job but for one bolt, the least accessable one that will only take openender
and at £395 makes me wince a lot!!!. By the way,job is cast iron e/manifold on side valve block so hammer and chisel no go.I like the soldering iron remedy
if i locate one i'll try that, otherwise gas it will be with hose pipe at the ready .
Cheers Martyn

Hi
You can get a Sievert gas torch and hose kit for around £70 - it fits a 'Calor' propane bottle - very useful things to have.

Re: tight nuts
The other option is to use a freeze spray - sometimes loosens obstinate nuts and a helluva lot safer.
