Ah, 2 grunts to the aargh - it's a binary measure.

One out of ten people understands binary. The other one doesn't.MalcW wrote:Ah, 2 grunts to the aargh - it's a binary measure.

My personal view is that you need to be aware of the difference iron head to alloy head. Anyone reading this should not carry the values across. There's been lots of discussion of the alloy head torque values and I have personal experience of the damage caused by applying high torque figures on an alloy head.
I have a feeling that it's not the absolute tightness but the common value across the head bolts that is important and that's why the less experienced "mechanic" gains from using a torque wrench. Those with the appropriate touch and experience can maybe do without (not me!).

Re: Torque settings HW Single
Any torque setting be it big or small spanner or a proper torque wrench will be completely useless if the hole in the barrel is to clean in the thread and has no bits at the bottom. I have broken a headbolt before realising this was why the gasket kept leaking. Interesting getting the threaded part of the bolt out as it breaks pretty much flush with the barrel!
