Hi Shaun, for something different, why not buy an AJS to ride whilst the Matchless is in bits?......Edited by - dalesp on 03 Sep 2009 08:42:28 AM

Well as a matter of fact I was thinking of going for an Ajay 500 single but pre 57 as I like the style of the older ones and fancy having a manual advance retard too ! Anybody offering ??

Go for it!, I bought a '56 18S about 4 months ago and it's great fun to ride, even in it's present neglected state...it'll give me something to do over the winter i guesss!

Enfield sold tonight. Matchless now my one and only.Guy is another ex 900cc rider demoting to smaller bhp.
Lots of guys looking for smaller bikes, slower speed and lightweight. The Electric start also helps.
The Matchless has forced the Enfield out the door.
Sad,but good memories and would'nt hesitate to buy another, although maybe i'd go for the older, non indian export type, with oil leaks, and some history.
Will probably buy a T100 in the New Year.

T100????
trust me, the original Hinkley Tbird is much better and can still be got for under £2.5k
I think the earlier versions best as the latter had toooo much chrome & later legend's quality was cheapened
but put straight thru's on it if you get one, sound great
IT'S A CLASSIC IN THE MAKING

Does that also mean my Harris G80 is better than an original Plumstead G80

oops.... forgot the T100 was the first thunderbird .... was thinking of the Hinkley T100 Bonnie!
nowt wrong with the Harris G80, I'd have one myself!
& when you get old & weak & the right hand knee has crumbled from years of kickstats the harris will indeed come into its own over plumstead.....electric start or just the left knee

The Meridan T100 was always a sporting 500cc & the Thunderbird the mild tuned 650cc. Hinkley Triumphs are different animals. Cheers, Don. Edited by - Don Madden on 06 Sep 2009 7:50:03 PM

ooops.....
i better shut my mouth, i shud know better as i've got 4 trumps!!!!! 3 meriden, 1 hinkley.
whilst totally different animals I think the Hinkleys are still trumps (but i wasnt sure at first)
but my 1st bike is still my G9 & occasionally I go to our local triumph dealer on it where the sales reps usually ask "what is it?" or "thats an old triumph - they dont leak anymore"
Best was last winter when i went to another main dealer near me. There was a chap on a velo, & me. Another rider turned up on their honda, commented on reliability and left the heated grips on. With the battery flattened they were pushing and bumping and groaning. We both gave a single kick (well 2 for me) and smiled
And the jampot rally was tons better than the over commercialised bonnie 50th bash
