I bought a Solo starter some years ago to start my Cammy AJS, when I sold the bike last year I considered selling the starter, I am now glad that I didn't, it may come in useful to start my 1937 G8 Clubman and my G80CS when the leg gets too old! The price is now around £900 so it's proved a good investment.

That's a good site. Interesting to read the characteristics of the different nylon etc. Polypropylene seems to be cheaper than some of the other plastics but I used it because it was free to me. I considered knurling the rollers for better grip or routing or sawing some grooves but it hasn't been necessary so far. I did think boat trailer rollers might be a good idea, is that what you used?

What's the technique... ? Do you spin the wheel up, in gear, with the exhaust valve lifted and then just drop the lifter? What gear?
I'm from the Fens.... Gimme six.

I started my Cammy in 2nd gear valve lifter open, when engine spinning drop the lifter and away it goes.

Yes it will only work in 2nd gear. Valve lifter with the single as Dudley says. Clutch in on the twin, spin up, drop the clutch, brum brum! :D
