But today I finally bought my 600 up into the 1970s at least.

I fitted a waterproof microswitch to the fork leg operating off the front brake arm, picked up a feed in the headlight then ran a switch wire to the stop light.

I hid the cable in shrink wrap behind the fork leg and used grey tie wraps.


I now have a functioning front brake light. It should have cost me under a quid for the switch but the local electronics trade shop is still closed due to covid, Mind you £5.50 delivered isn't too bad.

It took me more to plan it than do it. I feel a bit happier on the road now.

Please don't tell the rivet counters though.... ;)

I always use both brakes together so don't feel the need for a front brake switch, but if it makes you feel safer, fine!

It would be handy to fit a repeater on the handlebars to let you know that the front brake is working. :rofl:

You've hit the nail on the head Neville!! :rofl: A few days ago the cable failed. Luckily it happened when I was parking it :shock:

When buying my thicker front brake cable for the 46 matchless from Venhill I specified their in line brake switch. I think it's a Norton component. It comes with spades and is waterproof. Added a few pounds to the cable price. I consider that 5 1/2” brake every bit the equal of the 7” on the later AJS. Bike was a lot lighter though.
Haven't got the bike now so no photograph.
