Technically it is a bodge, however it meant I had a ride.
The clutch pushrod adjuster thread decided to let go on the M30 last week.
I ordered a new pressure plate, adjuster, locknut etc. and hoped they would arrive today. The postman came and went with just a bank statement .
I'd got the bike on the lift with the chaincase oil drained by this point. I thought I'd have nothing to lose so stripped it ready for tomorrow instead.
That's when I got inventive...
I found a BSP tap funnily enough in a metric tap & die set. Plus it was just the right size for the centre.
So, I found a brass airline fitting that was a perfect fit, with a bit of locktite and adjustment it works a treat.
It reminded me of when I was a teenager when I had no choice but to fix my A10 to get to work. My old man taught me well!
It lasted for thirty odd miles this evening as I managed to get to the burger van by the river in Mistley for a cuppa. Very nice it was too.
These old machines are very forgiving

Nice one. Nothing wrong with a bodge, Andrew. Some of my longest lasting mods have been bodges.Plugsnpoints wrote: These old machines are very forgiving
I recall that several years ago the same pressure plate thread stripped on a pal's bike out on a trip.
At the roadside I removed the adjuster screw locknut and refitted it (the locknut) to the adjuster screw on the inside of the pressure plate. I don't remember having to do anything else but it certainly worked a treat and got him home.
(I rode back from the Milan International Jampot with my clutch lever held on with cable ties).

We used to have Super Bodges, one were the bodge was better than the original part,
this would have a number added like 642866/c just to pee off the manager who would
walk away shaking is head but never vetoed it, don't think we would get away with it now.
Nothing wrong with a bodge well done.

I think it's called "innovation" these days, it's all the rage!
1953 AJS 16MS, 1939 BSA 250 and a 1/3 scale Sopwith Triplane but that's another story .....

I must say that what you describe is a solid repair, piece rethreaded and adapted, screwed up solidly so as to work as the original fabrication! A bodge, to me, is tied up with wire/string/gaffer tape/araldited and holding on by willpower alone in the hope to get home!
Not a bodge but a repair which you can renew when you get the new bits. Bravo!
Dave (I daren't itemise MY past bodges!)

Top quality bit of work. I did exactly the same to marry my CP clutch to the B52 gearbox. Did you temper the adjuster screw?

Hi Spookyfoot, no I didn't temper the temporary adjuster as it was made from brass! The bits turned up the following day so I made a proper job of it. I even went to the trouble of replacing the thrice used gasket. I bet you're impressed?!!
