Hi all. The rocker covers on my twin polish up rather nicely (you can tell I'm bored). But, having got them to that state, is there anything I can coat them with to retain the finish that is capable of withstanding the heat?
Cheers,
Malc

Jap bikes had clear lacquer on polished parts, but it looks poor when it starts yellowing and cracking. Get the Autosol out Malc

Re: Protecting alloy
Try some silicone spray, normally used for rust protection, it is easily washed off with petrol or meths.

I originally polished mine on the mops. Now I just buff them up with autosol when I check the valve clearances. They come up alright and my bike can get into some right states after a day on the Welsh lanes.

Re: Protecting alloy
Thanks all. I have the Autosol, polishing rags and a Dremel, so I'll clean them up as usual, and try a bit of silicone spray. I only started off by cleaning it, and so far seem to be gradually taking it apart, cleaning and painting etc.!

Japanese motorcycles used to, or still do, use a lacquer on the engine ally. I assume it would be high temp?
