Going to look at one in about a week,

Do you or anyone else know if AJS ever exported a Model 18 with a all alloy engine,

Yes they were exported, but I think only the comp models (e.g. 18CS H/W) had an alloy barrel.
Which year have you in mind? Ajays designated 'Model 18' were sold for about 20 years, possibly longer, but I'm no historian.

Around 54, I have seen one and seen a road test of another both had come from the USA,
maybe it was something done over there, but they looked like Model 18s not the CS like the
one I had.

Page 5 of the 1954 Spares List shows the cylinder for the Model 18 comp models to be dearer than the touring models which I'd assume is because they are alloy.

The Alfin alloy barrel was available for a range of marques. Here's an ad from the USA 1958........

The Ariel now runs, done about a hundred miles,
the carb is much to big and I have now fitted a
type 6 much more in keeping and though I have
not ridden it on the new carb it revs cleaner so
we will see.

the old W/Ng is a cracking bike, I have a '42 which I have taken to Latvia for the rally run there by Juris Ramba and she has been on the Irish National a couple of times, my G80cs was taken there a few times but the date was then cut off at 1950.
kind regards

Hi and thanks for the reply, Only been using the NG locally up to now, I have never had a bike
that seems to attract so much interest, and I have had over 60 in my time,
I have a AJS on the way it belongs to a friend that imported it or repatriated it from California
so next step is to make use of the dating service to get it registered and hopefully on the rd
here in the UK.
To be honest the AJ is more my thing and hopefully will become a long time rider, though with
the NG you have got to love a bike you can ride that older than you are and I am 72.
