Re: Lights or no lights to ride on the road??
The bulb horn is acceptable until 1974 age bikes, after that a horn must make a continuous sound when operated. When my trials A.J.S. used to be tested the examiner insisted on a rear reflector and gave me a 'daylight use only' certificate. Which is what I would produce when I M.O.T. tested cars. If any lights are fitted then the vehicle should have a complete lighting system and they all must work.

Thanks for your replies. We seem still a little unsure but I am lead to believe that this bike doesn't need an MOT due it being 1961 model so no legal requirements for any lights or a continuous horn It looks like just a reflector at the rear. Please correct me if I'm wrong

Regardless of MOT required or not if there are lights and they don't work then the Plod won't be too happy.

I can see you don't have lights fitted so only a rear reflector is required, what I can't see is a speedo or a rear number plate, not forgetting road legal tyres.

I seem to remeber when sorting out my G3 basket case ready for inspection that the reflector has to be sited on the bikes centre line. My mate who's a registered MOT inspector has a card of cheap self adhesive reflectors that he will stick on the back of one or two of his 'chopper' customers bikes when the turn up with a number plate, rear light and reflector hanging off the side of the bike at the back just to get them through the MOT.

Yes Colin it's my bike in “new pictures†ðŸ‘
Both tires are road legal and stamped. The speedo I have and will get fitted. Just waiting for certification from the club then DVLA and a plate will be fitted. Lights have never been fitted so looks like it's just a reflector, plate and speedo and I'm good to go. Happy days
