Insurance for an 83 year old !

Post by Bobsteve »

Hi all. Anybody know of an insurance company that insured over 75 year olds? I have my dads 1961 18cs insured with Peter James which is fine for me as I'm a spring chicken at 48 😃 but it's capped at 75 year olds and dad is 83 and wants to ride it also. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

I'm 78 and have my bikes insured with Peter James. Age has never been mentioned. I know of others older that use them. Perhaps it's recently been introduced.

I suggest you give https://www.bikesure.co.uk/ . I heard of one 81 year old who was given a reasonable quote this year for riding an oldish GSXR1000 and a more expensive one for a Ducati V4 Panigale.

Alternatively, https://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk is a broker who may be able to help.

I'm a youngster at a mere 73 but my bikes are insured with RH Specialist Insurance (they advertise in 'Jampot'). Very competetive. At the last renewal (December 2018) it was £142.75 for my four bikes (all on the same policy) and at the time, I was living in London. Having now moved to rural Lincolnshire, I'm hoping it may be a bit cheaper this year :D
The subject of age limit has never arisen but I will enquire when the premium is due again in December.
I'm from the Fens.... Gimme six.

I have a friend who is 81 and has his bikes insured with Peter James. He is also a named rider on my policy which is also with Peter James. Age has never been an issue on either policy. It may be that it is the actual insurer, not Peter James as the broker that has an issue with your dad's age. Which insurance company is your insurance with? My insurer is Equity Red Star.

All 3 of mine are insured with RH, also my 1954 MG and my modern car, I will be 79 next!
The underwriter is Equity Red Star, RH was a sister company.

First post so hello clubmates.
I have my G12CSR and my 1000SS Ducati insured with MCE Insurance of Rushden, Northants.
I am 77 have spent several years out of the UK and the last time I had UK motorcycle insurance was 2009.
I was refused by several insurance companies, but had no problems with MCE.

Thank you all for your replies and advice. Great service as always guys 👍.
I've decided to go with Footman James. They have both dad and I insured and a better valuation guarantee of bike plus all the usual extras and bla bla stuff.
Cheers
