Looking through my parts I've found 2 x 350cc pistons, one has grooves the other hasn't, can someone advise me what the difference is?

Some may have holes round the oil ring groove some don't. I guess holes / slots assist lubrication. Perhaps also control heat so the piston heats up round, not go or stay oval.
