all this info can be discovered with in literature books for your bike which you should have. Those being the first parts you should get for your bike if missing.
See sales cat specifications. http://archives.jampot.dk/promotional/S ... ochure.pdf
Here you will see in specifications. wheels chrome etc. except parts that are painted Black. See pictures wheels chrome with black painted centres. ( Note other parts painted black like teles.)
Brakes; see spec's. Both wheels with large dia brake. Sounds like 7" to me. ( I don't have a 48 bike )

I have a 1947 G80 500 which has 7" brakes from the '48 model, with the nearside fork slider, with 2 bolts through it to anchor the brake plate.

According to the Roy Bacon book 1948 to 1962 used 7" brakes front and rear, as mentioned above 1948 used a two bolt fixing for the brake plate to the fork leg.
1947 states that wheel rims for Matchless were chrome with black centres and lined silver, 1948 says as 1947 except export which had red centres and silver lines.
If you are not striving for factory originality it is worth considering how well silver shows up on chrome or testing a few different silvers to get the best contrast.

Hi lads you have made my day having bought this bike as a total basket case. it has 7" brakes, having a 1946 with 6" brakes I doubted whether they came from a 1948. The rims are in really good conditioned but have paint on them with no chrome underneath, being as this will be rebuilt as a road trials I suppose painted may not look to out of place. many thanks Richard
