Ah. No wonder it won't pick up off idle!
In addition to my checklist, you do need to have the right bits in the carb. :D

According to my manual, a 1957 M16 should be a 376/5 (1 1/16") monobloc with 220 main (210 w/ air filter), 3 1/2 slide, 30 pilot, .106 needle on the middle slot.

Yup!! With help from you fellas, and a bit of head scratching, nearly breaking my ankle etc. I think I am getting close to fixing it at long last. I had visions of having to buy a new carb. We'll see when the bits turn up. I ordered the 210 jet as I'm running without an air cleaner at the moment as it's what the books say.

Like I say, I'm not scared to ask, and being a bit rusty on Brit bikes after 30 years of Guzzi V Twins.

I owe you all a pint (with 6 straws!!! )

Thanks fellas.

I'll send you an update if you're interested!

Should be 220 without air filter (210 with). Don't worry, any jet is better than no jet.

Rob. I think the photo to which you refer isn't the carb on Andy's bike. It's not mine either!
Seems I lost my way a bit there Neville, not reading all the postings.
Finally discover, the bike has no main jet. So my comment about fluff blocking it did not apply either. Think needle position may also need to be different if a filter is fitted, as well as changing the main jet size. I have never had an air filter fitted on any AMC. As I live in Essex, where we have no deserts.

Guilty conscience, Clive?
Never owned this bike Sprids and even I would not leave out the main jet. (Might rob it though to keep another bike running. Still trying to track down all the "borrows" off my G3L so I can get it running again.)

Like I say it's my first bike with an anal carb in 35 years! I'm allowed one mistake

All this talk about float levels made me check mine with the old ‘tube on the pilot jet' ruse.

Seems to be ok.

And as soon as it arrives you'll find the original where you put it for safe keeping as you stripped the carb for it's first clean ;)
