I told you the tool bag was used in 1936 pt. no. 17520, WD and post war were same, when old pt no's were given new pt. no's 17520 became new pt. no. 017253 up to at least 1957. So it was the same from at least 1936 to 1957. I look it up for you and you tell me that is wrong.
NOTICE in 1950 it confirms old and new pt. no's are the same.

Hi Rob

I don't think either of us are doubting your knowledge, more so the vagaries of Plumstead's documentation, below is a snip from the 1950 AJS manual which implies that the part number to which you have referred was a pouch as opposed to a roll:
1950 AJS Tool Pouch.png
I guess very few of these have survived if in fact they were ever produced.

1950 AJS instruction manual I looked in says Tool bag, as in the 30's 40's 50's parts lists. Same item. Was it a Neil or Haycraft manual who decided to call it pouch Mick. Regardless of the name, 36 to 57 approx. was the same item. Too long ago for me to actually remember what I had in the 50's.
