OEC/AJS/Matchless

Post by GOLDSTAR »

Rob Reaney is advertising an OEC with an AMC engine circa '30's he is saying it is a Matchless engine but my query is didn't prewar Matchless have the mag behind the cylinder or is this not correct for the 500? just to satisfy my curiosity. I have no issue with the ad. kind regards

I have a 1937 Matchless G8 500cc, this has the magneto behind the cylinder, the AJS version was in front.

The Matchless engine may not be quite the same as the engine in a Matchless bike. Bit like Matchless engine in a Brough was a bit different. One point I will make is. OEC bikes usually had a Matchless engine of the previous year. e.g. 1938 OEC had 37 Matchless engine, so bear that in mind when using Matchless literature for an OEC bike engine.
