Cam Removal tool on HW single

Post by DHS 23 »

Does any body have a Cam Follower removal tool or drawing on how to make one? I see all alternatives on how to remove the cam follower but would rather do it with the correct tool. If you have a tool I will pay all postage I wouldn't need it long.
Thanks

H/W singles don't have followers so I'm assuming that you are referring to the tappet removal from the cases. If that is the case then the club HQ has a tool that you can rent.

Yep, quite right Clive, another of the advantages of joining up.

Contact Kettering and ask Gary to post it. You'll have to pay a deposit in case it gets lost or broken but it'll be refundable when returned. Not sure what the hire charge will be and in case he can't find it, it should be in the display cabinet in a wooden box.

Hijacking thread! What triggers the need for this job being done?

My G80S has the barrel off and there's hardly any sideways movement in the tappets at all, done plenty of miles so of it very hard miles. Is it wear on the foot where it meets the cam? What's the symptoms or does it just show up on inspection?

I looked at the tool for the job in the red book (fortunate to have both paperback and hardback - one for workshop and other for clean hands). and it looked formidable or do I recall wrongly?

Nope you're not wrong, even with the correct tool it can be a complete bugger. Unless there is serious slop in the tappet guide I'd leave well alone. Most tappet wear as you guessed John is to the foot.
