Front Mudguard 1957-1958

Post by rudelan_LAPSED »

Hello,

The front mudguard of a matchless 1957-58 is the same as the 1955 G3ls model? If not, can it be mounted on a 1955 model? I ask the question because on my G3ls of 1955 my fork is a 1 1/4 "

The only difference is in the mounting of the rear stay. You should have a stay/stand on your 55 model. This has a one bolt fixing at the rear. 56-59 models changed to an ordinary stay with 2 bolt fixing at the rear. So you can use it but you will have to fill 2 holes and drill a new one in the middle (unless you have a later stay).

Has anyone ever bought the model 55-57 mudguard made in india? Good quality ? Good dimensions? Really identical? Because I miss mine (1955) and I do not find. Thank you for your opinions.

The quality of thee Indian stuff has greatly improve over the past couple of years, depending on the supplier I have found one that I have dealt with in the past "Pummy" I think that supplied me with a tool box for a BSA and was very good, the only other good thing is you can bargain with him, quote a price less than he's asking and stick to it.

If you have no guard they are a good compromise to get the right look but don't expect any where the same quality as a factory original (they tend to be lighter weight, cut and welded rather than rolled and the stays are a bit wanting), providing you get them at a good price they are probably worth a punt.
