Re: Model 20 E bay
Saw that. Looks like a cracker to me. Same guy you got your single off? Only thing wrong (apart from that horn) is the front brake plate. Looks like he's got the slightly later plate with the 52 lever and torque arm position. So pointing the lever backwards, it's too far back and the cable run is out of line. Only answer is to get a 52 plate. Lovely bike though!

Hello Dave
Its not the same chap I bought my single off I was looking and bid on a bike he had a 1953 Matchless g3 but it went to higher bidder and as you say the 500 he has is quite nice looking . The one I bought was a 1954 A.J.S. 16ms off another chap

Yes it should have a pre-monobloc but thats the carb I'd fit because I like monoblocs. Its a lovely bike, I just don't like that front brake set-up, surely the cable must enter the torque stay straight on.

53 back plate with a 52 anchor arm. The lever is reversed.
Fix - Either fit a 53 anchor arm, (cable in front of fork leg), and turn the lever to point forwards, or find and fit a 52 back plate, (one year only part). The first option would be easiest and cheapest as the brake anchor arms are readily available. Don't worry about it being a 53 brake on a 52 bike. Who cares, so long as it works well and is a marriage of the correct brake parts?
Cracking game for the rivet counters.
Here is another one to pick over. Ebay number 172622062984

A little cynical, I have bought quite a lot of items off e bay including bikes and have had no regrets, in my view go look if its good buy it if not walk away and that's with any seller
