Pump for tyres

Post by JEAN-NOEL »

I was looking for an air pump.

I found one on this site : http://www.mgandamcparts.com/

What do you think about it ?

Kind regards.

Hi

If you mean the one that fits the lugs on the frame - I bought one from AMC Classic Spares for less. Cosmetically it's good, can't comment on performance as I've never used it in anger.

I brought a pump some time ago, I forget where from. Fitted the bike a treat. Never really checked it out. When I went to use it, it had no hole to screw in the connector. It was returned and replaced.

I purchased this one in black:

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... ID=EBAY-GB

It's also available in chrome,is well made and has a long hose in the handle.

Had some cheaper ones but sent them back as they where either plastic or very tinny.
( I guess it's a case of "if you pay peanuts you get 🐒🐒🐒"!!!)

Your choice looks OK 👍 though

Cheers

Having purchased and placed your pump you may want to put a strap round it and the frame to stop it being stolen ❗️

I use a mountain bike pump by Crank Brothers. Its small and very powerful, fits in the top box or bag. It will even blow tubeless tyres up no problem. I know the original type looks good on the bike but they can get nicked or fall off if you don't tie-wrap them on and mines much more effective.

Never had a pump stolen or fall off. Make sure the bottom fitting goes in the pump hole good. If the pump is loose on the two fittings, fit a longer or stronger spring on pump inner tube, between the pump handle and top of the pump. So you have to compress the spring hard to fit it on the bike. You are more likely to get it stolen by putting on a strap. It offers the thief a challenge.

Hi

Here's a photo of mine from AMC Classic Spares - the flash is 'unkind' in showing up the layer of dust on the bike

Not sure how strapping the pump to the frame will prevent theft - compressing the pump to remove from the lugs will slacken the strap and then twist pump to break strap, strapping will just increase the chance of secondary damage. If you're worried about theft, keep the pump with your helmet when you park.
