Oil Caps

Post by Triumph-Legend »

Oil caps with text stamped can be hard to find. The original manufacturer is Ceandess, a UK company based in Wolverhampton.

The caps are made in batches and you may have to wait until a new batch is produced. But don't worry as the cap illustrated is one of their regular product lines.
The caps retail at around £15.00. That's only an extra couple of pounds more than the plain caps offered by most retailers. They also produce an interesting range of other fuel and oil tank caps.
If the text is not correct for a particular application, the tool cost to produce custom stamping is quite reasonable if producing relatively small batch quantities.

They appear to be twist and turn fitting and will not fit early models that have internal expanding fitting. Also make sure you do not get a 2 stroke petrol tank cap with instructions how much oil to add per gallon. Handy to know repro's are available and prices may favour buying them instead of re chroming old ones.

Hi Clive, Good question. I have spoken to the manufacturer, they have confirmed that they were the original suppliers to the AMC / Norton group as well as many other British motorcycle manufacturers. Unfortunately there are not a lot of records available at the company, they had a fire some years back and this allied to the usual company office clear out over the years has meant the loss of much of the original customer supply and sales records.
However the original tooling is still in good order and producing quality products.

The name of the company, Ceandess, is derived from the names of the original founders, Chilcott, Stevens & Scott. I was informed that the Stevens part of the partnership is of the same family that had engineering interests and also produced the AJS motorcycles.

Apparently, in the past the company has not made effort to supply direct to the retail sector, however things have changed and now both wholesale trade and retail customers are welcomed.

It's a good thing to see original parts suppliers still going strong and producing correct parts. I wish them well.
