During the removal of the plunger - check the side play in its socket, there should be hardly any lateral movement.
If there is movement, drill out the housing and bush it back to the plungers diameter +0.500" maximum
Even quite small amounts of lateral movement here have added substantially to the problems described by "Spanner in the Works" in my experience.
